    Think about how you move

    Changing the Game

In our Think about how you move blog, we shared a few tips and tricks on how to minimize your impact and efficiently get around. Sustainable travel is something that we can all get better at so we want to shed some light on a bold move made by KLM Airlines in regards to long-distance travel.

    Changes in the Airline Industry

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KLM), the official airline of the Netherlands, recently released a statement asking passengers to consider flying less. CEO Peter Elbers pushed the idea of making “responsible decisions about flying” by calling for a united effort between passengers in airlines to make air travel more eco-friendly. On the passenger side, KLM has asked passengers to consider packing light, having online meetings, and taking the train or other transportation options. On the corporate side of things, KLM has innovated its cabin layout to be more fuel-efficient. The greater aviation industry has been increasingly under pressure to innovate due to the massive carbon footprint that flying has, account for nearly 3% of annual global emissions. Proposed changes to the airline industry include having less business & First-class seats, getting rid of extremely short flights, and levying taxes on jet fuel to incentivize other methods of travel.

    Make your voice heard!

We should all aim to reduce our personal carbon footprint but action at the corporate level is where we can implement change at a grand scale relatively quickly. We should all try to encourage companies and our elected officials to support environmental initiatives at the industrial level and beyond. Actions like these benefit people and animals worldwide. Make sure that you do everything you can do to help the environment by holding companies accountable, voting wisely, and joining us here at Physis Investment to make your money work for you & mother nature.
